3: Secretary John Long, Letter to Captain Glass (1898)

Letter from Secretary of the Navy John Long to Captain Henry Glass ordering him to take Guam

This is the official order that was given by the Secretary of the Navy to the Captain of the USS Charleston to capture the island of Guam. When Captain Glass was given the envelop containing this order, in Hawaii, he was told to not open it until the ship was far out at sea. The order was that secret.

This source is very important because it shows the original orders given to capture Guam, and this is why I picked it.
